How do you make your Yahoo! Group description compelling and interesting?

  • Your group description is how you present your group to potential members and share information with your current members. What do you do to make your group description interesting and fresh?

    I used to use iframes sicne the character limit was not enought, but I try to get the whole ideal summary first then add some ideas of what my summary was about. Also once they integrate the group, I give a more detailed explanation of everything we try to offer in the group, I add the direct links to items in the archives, links, database, agenda, polls etc... I try to make my group the most interactive and fun, just so that the members, actually like the group, and don't want to leave but participate.

By hosting a compelling and interesting topic. Describe it with enough detail to attract interested members. Clarity and good cosmetics do count, but content most of all.

I don't often update the wording on the homepage of my group, except if I want to get members' attention, or we've made major changes within the group (which is usually after discussion within posts), I find some of our members don't often log in, they just read emails. I do have lots of search-specific words relating to our top in our description to attract new members, and have used HTML to jazz up the page with bold, large, and some coloured fonts, and also some that scroll across the page. I do regularly update the picture on our homepage (we are a craft group), so hold competitions regularly for members to have their work featured on the home page. I also change the colours to suit the home page picture, and often get comments from members when they do log it it's nice to see a different colour. Hope that helps.
