Whats the meaning of having a yahoo group? what are they?

i mean, i was in one group, & didnt like it, i much rather search for on line friends & do fowarding jokes & private mails, but what is yahoo groups for? cus everyone sees your posts, Whats the meaning of a group? can you all explain? what becomes of it? what does it do?

Yahoo groups have many different categories and are all eused for different reasons. families often use them, people who like sports, maybe photo's, or jokes. if you post to a Yahoo group, depending on each members mail choices, it's like sending one e-mail that will get to everyone instead of just one. it's like being in a conversation with a large group of people, only instead of verbalizing, your typing. groups are not for everyone- but many like them alot.
