Why can't I find the Yahoo Group that I created today in Yahoo's group search?
-
I've created my first yahoo group today about 15 minutes ago. I successfully made it. Then I opened my email address and Yahoo e-mailed me that the group that I created is successful. I clicked the group homepage in that message and it works. Then I tried signed out my account to look for the group that I made in Yahoo's Group Search but sadly there is no result. I tried entering the homepage of my group and it works. Why can't I find it in Yahoo's Group search? How can I fix it?

Answer:
This has NOTHING to do with Yahoo making any changes, it's always been between 24-48 hours before a new group, ANY changes you make to your group's front page that affects the Directory listing for all the groups or anything else changes! It's amazing how many 'top' people give the most inaccurate replies. Yahoo has always used minimal equipment and the Groups Directory where (if you elected for it to appear in your Management settings, if you picked 'does not appear in Directory' you won't show at all until you change it) we all appear has taken a minimum of 24 hours to show any change. It appears that somewhere between 12AM and 4AM EST, usually after 3AM which would be Midnight out west where a majority of the Yahoo servers timestamps appear to be from, things get automatically updated in a big sweep. Check your group's records and e-mails, they all have timestamps from the west coast. And yes, you have to pick 'Show in Directory' and be a public group to appear anywhere in the directory and any subsequent search engine spiders that go pick things up from that within 7-14 days later. Now, the other part totally left out of the inadequate answer that he'll be happy to give me a negative mark for even though he deserves it, covers the way the Directory handles groups. It filters and sorts them based on their age and total member counts. So if you're new with under 10 members, you may take even longer to show up and if your group's name is similar to others then you won't appear on the front page(s). Once you get up around 100 or so, then you start moving up the ranks in the Directory so that people find you easier. Naming your group more unique compared to others will help, but only if people would use the keywords of your group to find you. Your front page is where the Directory takes a 'snapshot' of what appears after your group's name in it! So you must choose carefully for the first few sentences as that's what people will see. Using words that help like you would in a search engine is a key, but repeating one or two over and over to get a higher rank won't do squat as you still will lose out to a group with 1,000 people when you only have 50. So learn to work with the Directory so more people will find you but never forget to promote your own group as much as you can yourself!

Good luck with that. I've got my second report in to tech support that a group I created 50 days ago still doesn't appear and cannot be found with a search.

no newly created group has ever been in the directory right away, ever since Yahoo became more active about minors. it can take a day to list, or a week or 2 depending on how fast Yahoo is on any given day.

When I created mine it was right away. Just make sure you type in exactly how you put your name of your group. One misspelled word or letter in the wrong place will not pull up your group.
