How can I (moderator) or the members change their name (on the "members" page in the member column)?
-
On the members section of the group there are 5 columns -- Member; Yahoo! ID; Email Delivery; Joined; and Remove Member. Some of the members have their e-mail address in the "Member" column while others have their Yahoo ID. How can you change that name? I hope I explained my question well enough. I can edit in more information if you need it... Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Once again, a skimpy answer from the same 'top' person? While the statement 'you can't' is correct it barely explains why and isn't totally accurate because THEY can themselves, but none of you can within the Group page you're asking about. What shows up in the Members page is from each person's settings in their Yahoo ID account OR if they aren't using one - whatever they have set for their personal e-mail. So they can change things only if they go to their Account settings and change their name, etc. there just like changing their e-mail used with your group. Now, what about the names appearing on posts in your group? Well those are solely based on whatever the person has set as their 'name' attached to that e-mail account in their e-mail program/service. So if they use Gmail or Yahoo Mail and go in and change from 'Bob' to 'Booty Bob', then that'll be what shows up to others when they get an e-mail copy! The Group may still show the Yahoo settings on the side of the posts, but once inside you'll also get the changed version. People have been known to change their names to stupid, offensive or worse things so you have to keep an eye on that and YOU own your group, it's a privilege not a right for them - so you make the policy and final call if what someone's using is too far over the line! If they won't change, toss them as you will have nothing but problems in the long run. Now one thing you asked, what appears on the Members page without a Yahoo ID means they subscribed to your group via e-mail and as I mentioned before whatever they use there - that's what shows on posts. Since Yahoo doesn't know, it will always show them with 'Request Profile' because it wants them to join Yahoo and get a Yahoo ID to use with your group. That's their option, they can and ignore their Yahoo Mail account by changing their Membership options to continue to use the same e-mail they always did - then name their Yahoo ID whatever they want to appear. One last thing to consider, if you have an open membership and then you have your Member's List exposed on top of it - you're begging for spammers to come 'harvest' your group's people and spam-bomb them! You can't stop it once it starts so the best move is set Members so that only Mods/Owners can see it. No one else really needs to see it anyways, they can send mail to someone who's posted and involved in your group so shut it off before people go nuts blaming you for the spam!

you cant; those that only have an e-mail address in that column are those who only joined the mailing list or were added members. those who have their Yahoo ID in tha column have their Yahoo ID linked to the membership.
