Why is my information on my Yahoo page not current?

Can information from a database on a Yahoo!Groups page be accessed by non-members of the group?

  • Our Yahoo!Group has a database of information on our page and some members are concerned it can be accessed by those not inour group...is this possible?

    There are several levels of permissions (restrictions) you can set on a database. Even if you limit database access to group members only, you have to look at how easy it is to join your group. In an "Open" group, you could legitimately say that anyone can access the database since anyone can join the group. If you have sensitive data, but you need to let your group members see it, you need to limit database access to members only and make your group "Restricted" (and carefully screen who you allow to join).

That's a good question. It depends on how the group owner has the database set. If the owner has it set to to be viewable by "Anyone", then non-members could access it. If you are not the owner, you could contact your group owner and ask about it. Some may not agree with me but this is how I know: I was considering joining a group that was Restricted. I noticed an open link to Database and clicked on it just out of curiosity. Sure enough, I could view all the tables. Later I joined the group and mentioned it to the owner who immediately changed that setting to Members Only.

there is no option 'anyone' for the data base. only members can see it. it typically is not possible for non members to view it
