How can you take over as moderator for an active group that has no active moderator?

There is a Group whose moderator has bouncing email and I think this group is in need of a new moderator. How or can I become the moderator for this group?

If you have been a member of the group "long enough", you can go to the help-pages and contact customer care. they will then assess the groups situation, and mail you what you can do. If they don;'t turn you down it envolves a moderator-election by means of a non-anonymous poll. Those who say it can't be done: I got a list that way in februari 2011 (and was denied others afterward, because I wasn't a long time member, or started the poll before contacting customer care. A friend of mine got away with starting the poll first though - so maybe they don't have an established policy yet)
