How can people join Yahoo groups without a Yahoo account?

Does joining a yahoo group require having a yahoo account, or can people with non-yahoo account still join?

  • I seem to recall that I have been to MLs supported by Yahoo groups where many of the members did not post from a yahoo e-mail address, so I assumed it was not required to join a group. Now that I created my own ML, the people with for example hotmail get error messages about having to acquire a yahoo account to join.

  • Answer:

    Anyone can join from any email address by using the subscribe email listed at the bottom of every group, they can also post from home, but won't be able to access the features of the groups without a yahoo id. :)

You need to have an Yahoo! account to join a Yahoo! Group but you can use a different email address for the group if it is already set up in the Yahoo! account as an alternate email address.

I remember this as well; perhaps they are trying to join with access to web features and not just the mailing list. Here is the link with instructions regarding mailing list only: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/groups-19.html If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to tell you.
