Can other members with email join in yahoo group?

Can you join a yahoo group without using a yahoo email address?

  • I am setting a yahoo group. In order to make it easier to join I would like to allow perspective members to join without going to the trouble of setting up a yahoo id but use there normal email address.

    You cant pre-set a group that way, it is default to join 2 ways: with a Yahoo ID, and without. Anyone can join w/o a Yahoo ID, subscribing to the mail list only- but you can’t access the group's web features (photos, files, links, polls, and calendar). So depending on what's shared on the group, members may want a Yahoo ID. Contrary to common belief it is entirely possible to get a YA account without having a Yahoo mail account. When I signed up in 2006, I used a mail account with a German provider and was never pressured by Yahoo to use one of their own mail accounts. And I can't imagine why the same policy shouldn't apply for Yahoo groups...:-)

yes, - they can be email-only-members, subscribe themselves by email or have a moderator add them -if they have a yahoo-account since before yahoo made *having* a yahoo-MAILaccount mandatory (I think it's for boasting primarily, you don't have an obligation to actually *use* the yahoo-MAIL-account), as echinopsis said - they can sign in on facebook or google, as barkley hound indicated
