List owner died and she was the only moderator. I need to access group settings to send a message to members.?

I'm a member of a group where there was only one moderator and list owner. It was a one way newsletter essentially. She was the only one who could post messages to the group. Unfortunately, she died. I need to let the members of the group know that a new web site has been established to continue the group's activities. The newsletter is no longer being sent out, but the members need to be told about this new web site. I can't post a message because I'm just a member. I have taken over many of her functions and duties. So, I would like to gain control of this Yahoo group. Couldn't find anything on this in the regular Yahoo group. Is there a way to gain control of a Yahoo group when the only moderator is gone?

Answer:
Yahoo WILL NOT do this for you. There is one reported case where Yahoo would not release password information to the family of a Marine who was killed by an IED in Iraq. Only the group owner can pass on ownership of the group. But, if the owner's family has her login information (which the family of the Marine did not), they can log in using her Yahoo ID and password. Depending upon how well you know her family, you may be able to get their assistance. If the family doesn't have her Yahoo password, but does have access to her computer, they could use the email account that she used to create her Yahoo ID to get a new Yahoo password (in the same manner you would if you forgot your Yahoo password). This will require patience and a very gentle attitude on your part.

Unfortunately-it is not possible to do this if she was the only Owner/Moderator. You can however try to contact Yahoo about this matter, and perhaps by providing identification and death certificate, you will be able to work it out. You can start your search here: http://help.yahoo.com/ . Send Yahoo a help message and go from there.

Unless someone else was given privileges of moderatorship or Co-Owner the only thing that can be done is to start a new group. As the last poster said if you know her family they may have access to that information about how to get to the group to help you.
