Why do important messages end up in my spam?

In Yahoo! Groups, why do some members messages end up in the spam?

  • I moderated a Yahoo! group and some members who are not on moderation, still have their messages show up in the spam folder so they do not post to the message board. Anyone know why and how I can stop that happening?

    To turn Spam Filtering off: Go to the Management section of the Group Click on the Messages link under Group Setting section Click on Edit link next to Posting and Archives Select Off option under Spam Filtering Click on Save Changes button

What an excellent question! I also have this problem. A couple of years ago, I actually tried to contact Yahoo! about this. What a joke. They have no clue. I had changed my Yahoo! Groups email address, and each time, spammers got it. I do have a clue, however. For sure, when you send out a message to the Yahoo! Group, your personal email address is visible once it arrives in each group member's local email client inbox. So, if a spammer has become a member of hundreds of groups, he will just farm (capture) those email addresses. I haven't tested this out exactly (you can with this lead), but try replying to one of the group email messages that you receive in your local email client, such as Outlook. The reply just might get posted onto the group web pages, including your email address or signature containing email address.
