How can I find a fruit picker job many months in advance?

  • Hi, I'm looking for a fruit picking/farm job in Australia. I'd like to start somewhere around February - April. Problem is that many of the sites where you find jobs have positions for "starting immediately", "next week", etc. etc. Where/who should I turn to to find a job months in advance? Thanks.

    Fruit picking and farm work are seasonal and are subject to the vagaries of the Australian climate. Combine that with the fact that seasonal workers and backpackers on working holidays are notoriously unreliable and perhaps you'll understand why nobody will hire workers more than a week or so in advance. If you're prepared to travel to where the work is, there is always fruit picking work to be found in Australia. Maybe try www.gumtree.com.au and post an add saying what your looking for and when you're available- you can post adds in different locations of Australia. It's becoming a really big website and is free to use- I always see fruit picking jobs advertised on there! Good luck!

Go to the farm you would like to get a job at and hand them your resume. This is the most effective way of getting a job. Other than that, you can sign up to job seeking websites such as seek and careerone and set up email alerts when jobs come available.
