Working Hours For A 15 Year Old?

Working 12 hours and getting Australin $80. . 15 Year old?

  • I am going to go work at the Sunday markets for 12 hours and get paid $80 australian $. I am 15 years old and i am going to do this every week till my 16th birthday to buy my first car. I have already saved up $2000 or so but i don't want a $2000 car so i am going to save up more. i get $20 a week off my parents as pocket money so it makes $100 a week, $400 a month, $4800 a year. Do you think that is a good way of saving up? I go to school so i can only work on Saturday or Sunday. Thanx in Advance

  • Answer:

That only works out at $6.66 per hour which is very low. For example, the adult minimum wage hourly wage for casuals in the Fast Food Industry under a Federal award is $18.75 per hour and 15 year olds get 40% of that rate (depending on the award) which works out at $7.50. A 15 year old casual shop assistant in NSW gets $7.545/hour. http://www.industrialrelations.nsw.gov.au/awards/controller.jsp?awardCode=601&view=currentrates Shop assistants NSW That said, your plan for saving is a very good one, but don't forget that you're only young once - you still need to relax and have fun with your friends. Saving hard for something worthwhile like a car is great and I applaud you but don't let it take over your whole life.
