What is the standard business card size for USA?

What size should a business card be?

  • I need to make some business cards for my sister in Photoshop what size should they be?

  • Answer:

To put it simply, the size of a credit card or ID. This is because the idea of a business card is to be portable while still containing essential information (e.g. phone numbers, names etc). Therefore they need to fit in a wallet. Some people make odd shaped cards, or bigger cards, and although they stand out as different, they are quite impractical.

The most common sizes are 90x55mm (Australian) and American 2 in x 3.5 in / 51 mm x 89 mm When creating your card make sure you leave a 3 mm trim area for any graphics or colors that extend to the edges, this allows for the printer a safety cut margin. So in simple terms if you have a color background or an image that spans the card make it 3mm larger than it needs to be. so a 90x55mm card will become a 96x62mm card before print and 90x55mm after the printer has trimmed the excess. You can download a PDF template here that show what I'm talking about and use it as a guide: http://www.caseygraphics.com.au/Business_Card_Template.pdf If you don't us a 3mm trim you may find some of your card will be trimmed and lost in production. Also don't place any important text any closer than 2mm near the edges in case they are trimmed off.

They can come in all shapes and sizes nowadays. But the standard is 3.25 x 2.75. EDIT: The site Postal provided is perfect to help you understand the things to consider when creating and/or printing your own business cards
