What is the difference between a bank and a building society?

Cant I use a bank if it has the same branch (furness building society) ?

  • Hi I have a saving's account with the Furness Building Society, and a new Furness Building Society has opened in my town which is nearer to the one I normally go too, can I use the branch that is closer to me or would I still need to go the the one I usually go to, as they are the same bank would i beable to use both ?
