How does a charity work?

Charity shops....how do they work!!?

  • Charity shops....how do they work!!? Today in my local charity shop, i happened to see in the back sorting room/stock room a pile of clothes ,on the top of the pile a Black skirt ..a short black "jagged hem" polyester skirt ..just the type i was after for going out at night [clubbing] "TOP SHOP" /"NEW LOOK" used to sell them but they no longer do and are hard to find. i asked the lady in the sorting room if i could buy it....how much she wanted for it...her reply...."Sorry its not for sale, its for recycling" !!! this skirt looked in perfect condition ..so why were they sending it to be cut up for rags..instead of selling it ...i have had it with this charity shop, 2 months ago i accidently gave them a bag of clothes but there were all my Black opaque school tights [10 pairs] in the bottom of the bag ..i asked for them back ,but they would not give them to me..[sorry we are not allowed to]neither were they ever put up for sale. 6 hours ago - 3 days left to answer.

  • Answer:

They probably don't sell clothes because they collect them "blind" and don't know if they are clean and can't afford to clean them so recycling is the cheapest option. As to your tights - was there anyway they could know which bag was yours? I appreciate that you knew but they were probably scared of breaking the "no sales to the public" rule - it's a Health & Safety rule and that always frightens people.

I think you'd do better by donating your used clothing to a local church's jumble sale.
