How do i get an enhanced CRB check as a sole trader?

• Starting a new sole trader company coahing in schools yet am struggling to find out how i go about getting a CRB check done as they dont seem to be given out to sole traders, any help appreciated

  There is a reason why people are asked to get checks in each job they go to. A CRB check is not a clearance it is specific to the job. More important crb checks do not have any validity period because someone can commit a crime between checks that would not other wise be shown up. However, in your enquiry, the issue is actually about whether you are what is known as eligible for a check. you cannot request a crb check on yourself. this is not permitted under current legislation. self employed people cannot request a check on themselves as they are not permitted to ask what is known as an exempted question about themselves. Only employers, and only for certain job roles, are allowed to obtain crb checks and you must give your consent. it is impossible for someone to check without your permission. You have 2 real options; 1. discuss this matter with the school to see if they consider that the level of contact and the frequency of contact warrants a check. 2. contact the crb on [email protected] and ask them are you eligible for a crb check. make sure you give them the following information; where will the contact take place. how often will contact take place. will you be supervised or unsupervised. will you be dealing with children and or vulnerable adults. how may people will be in contact with these groups for your reference note that both standard and enhanced CRB Certificates show details of all warnings, reprimands, cautions and convictions you have ever had. They are retained on the police national computer under current law until you are 100 years old. you can check your record very easily but it will cost you about forty pounds. contact the data protection officer at your local police station and tell them you want a subject access check on information held about you on the PNC. remember the crb do not determine what is shown on a certificate it is the decision of the police. In addition, you can contact an organisation known as disclosure scotland for a basic check. this is not equivalent to a crb check.
