  • Answer:

No one has jobs because of this credit crunch/recession. Businesses cant afford to hire new employees, they just train old ones. My friend works in a supermarket and says the store is really struggling with its employees but it just cant afford to hire more people right now. Someone once told me, out of every 100 jobs you apply for, you get an interview for one of them. tough, i know :s This might seem simple and obvious but get someone to check over your CV, make sure everything is correct, even spelling. Make sure its presentable, clear and easy to read. Give several contact details (home number, mobile number, e-mail, home address) and dont write loads in your personal statement. Make it broad enough to cover any job but make sure its not too broad that you start talking about how much you love shopping, just in case you apply for a job in retail. Dont have pictures, fancy writing or different colours. The employer has to be able to read it. If your CV is perfect then go onto your covering letter. You only need a covering letter if your specifically applying for a job advertised. If yuor just handing out CVs in various shops then you dont need a covering letter. In your covering letter state what the job is your applying for (the company may be advertising more than one job). Say what skills you have that are relevant to that job and how you acquired them. Only really need to say the main skills so chose wisely. It's a good idea to make a basic covering letter and just adjust it according to each job so the basic format and layout is the same. Again, its got to be readable. Once your CV and covering letter (if needed) are sorted then its already a good point in your favor. One problem ive found is that a lot of places want people with experience. But you cant get experience without a job. Catch 22 for most people. However, you may not need experience in that particular field. For example, if you've done work experience in a shop before and apply for a receptionist job that needs experience, it can be worth Still applying and saying in your covering letter something along the lines of: 'I have had experience of greeting and dealing with the public through my work experience and have acquired computer skills through my education' This shows you can adapt your skills to suit different jobs. Try getting job seekers allowance or some sort of benefits so you have some income - but dont rely on it! keep job hunting. Go online, look in newspapers, go to high streets and just hand out your CV. someone will hire you, its just a matter of time. When you get an interview, be presentable, punctual and polite :) enthusiasm will always help you, research the company and find out a bit about them, think of questions you can ask them such as 'will i recieve any training?' pay and hours you should already know and i think its better not to ask about this as it doesnt make it seem as if you want to work for the company. My dad got a job on his first interview. It took my mum somewhere close to about 40 interviews before she got her job! If you want, you can mail me and ask more questions and send me a copy of your CV/personal statement/covering letter (minus name and contact details of course) and i can look over them and give you some hints (if any) on how to improve them :) Hope your job hunting goes ok though and good luck :)
