Advice to look for jobs in UK?
-
While I was doing a 1 year course I was looking for a part-time job but I didn't have much luck, after the interviews I had I never got a response and now I'm forced to go to Jobseeker's Allowance till I find a job. I really dislike Jobcentre, it's like a nightmare and I've been thinking that if I try and go to retail stores and see if they have any jobs available, this would be ideal. And, I've sent my CV which is up to date and checked, which I've used to attach it to jobs I saw online. What other ways are there? I want to stay away from Jobcentre but I fear that won't be possible. Just thinking of Jobcentre makes me depressed, and I really want a job but I haven't got it yet. I'd take any job than go to JSA/JC. By the way, I use the directgov/jobcentre jobs website but it's not really helpful nor is gumtree, gumtree has some pretty dubious jobs up there. Please and thanks.

Answer:
I know how you feel with the Jobcentre... I've just graduated and had to sign on because I have no money to live off! The staff at the Jobcentre are so rude and offer no support or help whatsoever! And everyone who goes into the Jobcentre is tarred with the same brush - i.e. chav scum who never want to work but there are decent people who genuinely want to fund a job, the Jobcentre staff just don't always recognise this! The Jobcentre website is pretty useless but every so often a Sales Advisor position is posted on there. You just have to keep looking every single day! Failing that, I always look in my local Gazette, they advertise jobs like receptionists and things in there, so maybe you should check in your local paper. I always look at the recruitment websites for large companies, like Waitrose, John Lewis, etc. Reed is good for office work but pretty useless if you don't want that kind of thing. I hope you find something soon, it's tough out there but keep at it and something will come up.

JobCentre Plus is a waste of space. Stick some small ads in a local paper, and also try out residential care homes as they are always looking for staff. It's tough out there, but there is work to be found.
