How to post ipod to West Africa?
-
I'm selling my ipod and need to post it to West Africa, I still need to find out what country though. Anyway, I don't know how much it is going to cost and was hoping I could check online so I can let the buyer know but I'm confused on what links to follow on the Royal Mail website. Could someone please send me a link or something and tell me how to do this? Is it the right website to use, what about another postal service? This is the link I went to: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?catId=400023&mediaId=11200122 - I went under International Delivery options but whenever I select an option I don't understand what to do next, they want sizes and stuff and when I type them in the price of around £57 just seems too much which is why I think I'm calculating it wrong. So am I doing this right, is it best to have the item signed for? The packaging is in a type of box that Amazon.co.uk use to ship their items and it's not very big either. It shouldn't be this much of a hassle but I just don't know what to do. I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Answer:
Never send anything to West Africa that is not insured and does not have a tracking number. Things get stolen all the time by unscrupulous postal officers, lorry drivers, customs officials, etc in these countries and you are out of money if the item doesn't arrive. It will cost at least £50 to post something registered mail with insurance. But since the buyer is paying for shipping it doesn't matter what it costs. You are even safer sending via DHL, FedEx or another courier company vs Royal Mail. It costs more but you can always track your package and delivery. Once a Royal Mail package leaves the UK you can no longer trace it. The price will depend on the size and weight of the package. It's best to go to the post office, let them weigh the item in the box, and get a cost. Be careful if this is a sale through Gumtree or Ebay. There are so many fake payment scams involving West Africa. Do not send anything until you are sure the money is in your Paypal account. Don't trust an email from Paypal - the scammers are sending out fake Paypal email notifications. Go to paypal.com and log into your Paypal account -- if there is no pending payment you know you are being scammed and need to report this to both Paypal and Ebay. http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1100141048 http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/PayPal-Scam-Nigerian-Scam-Bank-Scam-Fake-Feedback_W0QQugidZ10000000005874274 http://forums.gumtree.com/topic18831.html http://www.whoisandrewwee.com/ebay-auctions/ebay-nigeria-scam-exposed/

I always send everything to my family in Ghana via DHL. It's expensive but at least I can track online and know when it arrives and nothing has ever gone missing. I've used Royal Mail but even cards don't always arrive. And once I sent a packet of Percy Pigs to my neice and those didn't make it, they were either lost or stolen. Nigerian post is just as bad as Ghana Post And as the other girl says be sure the money is in your account before you send the iPod. I had someone from Nigeria try to scam me on Gumtree when I was selling my old phone. I had to call Paypal to confirm there wasn't any payment and they didnt send me any emails when the money didn't show up in my account. Lucky I didn't send it because other people are always posting on Gumtree about sending things they never got money for

If you take it to the post office and ask them to weigh it and tell them where it is going to they will be able to tell you the price. I woudl also recommend trying different post offices to find the best price as they can vary greatly from place to place I was once told at 1 post office it was going to cost £8 and the was told at another £2.
