Does anyone know any good fabric stores in london?
-
i am working on making and fixing some clothes of mine. i was wondering if anyone knew any good fabric stores in london. preferably one more related more to fashion fabrics (denim, good quality felt, anything else) than a craft store. one of the most important things i need is a good quality denim or duck cotton. if you know of a place, please leave the name and location...the more details the better! thank you all for the suggestions! oh and the lower the prices, the better!

Answer:
You would be better off finding this kind of material on the Internet than in a high street store. Dressmaking is becoming a minority interest and few high street stores stock what you want as it is not economical. Wholesalers might. Do try EBay. Some of their regular retailers offer more esoteric goods. You can approach John Lewis, C and H Fabrics, the Fabric Warehouse or Liberty's, but I have my doubts as they seem to sell furnishing materials rather than dressmaking ones. Good luck!

Hello, I once made a wedding dress, i picked up my materials from the market, this way you cut costs as some materials can be exoensive fom high street shops, and they still have all the choice off colours, fabrics etc.

The main areas in london for fabric would be Commercial Road E1 (as this is where a lot of wholesale clothes companies are located). There is a good one in Church Street NW8 by the market. You could also try Tooting as there are a large Indian population there who buy material for saris etc.
