Making a claim with royal mail?
-
i sold something on ebay and posted it by second class, it has been 16 days since i posted it (excluding weekends) and the buyer claims they havent recieved it. I have proof of postage and other information they need, how does it work? Will i get my full money back to refund the buyer? Will the ebay page be proof of the value? Im convinced they did recieve it, will royal mail know this if they did? (i didnt send it by recorded or tracked) Worried about refunding it because its not something small and cheap else i wouldnt care, but if i refund them i wont have the money back or the item or do they pay both people who have lost out? any of your experiences on claiming from them would be appreciated, thanks

Answer:
If it was something "not cheap", therefore valuable why on earth did you send it by ordinary second class post. It is rather common for second class items to totally disappear whether letters or packages. You really seem like a cheapskate as most sellers offering a valuable item would only offer registered/recorded shipping option with the appropriate rate. There is no facility for tracking or tracing a second class package. That is kind of why recorded and registered exist. Duh. Do you have some sort of magical powers? "I am convinced they received it." What rubbish.

Not sending recorded means you cannot prove receipt, so you automatically lose any ebay/paypal disputes. Are you prepared to reveal the item number, (that way we will know about any vagaries of the postal claims for cost/item type). Initially reply to them, saying that you will (of course) refund if the item has gone astray, but could they please first double-check with neighbours that they haven't taken it in. Also ask them to verify that the address was correct. YOU will personally check with their local sorting office ('cause you can tell them the shape/size/details) and see if it's been held there. That action alone sometimes prompts the item to turn up. Otherwise, look at the "seller board" on ebay for advice. Don't give item numbers on there, but describe cost & item type for best advice.

I don't know anything about Royal Mailer but have you tried contacting Royal Mailer and attempt to find out what has happened to your shipment. If not contact Ebay and see what they say you should do.
Go to the Post Office, take your proof of postage and tell them that it hasn't been received. They will explain the procedure to take.
