London's New Years eve fireworks display... how much did it cost?

The cost of the New Year's Eve fireworks at the London Eye is paid for by the hundreds of thousands of revellers who arrive in the Capital to spend their money. The following morning, New Year's Day saw the London New Year's Day Parade. The same people filled the streets of London and spent their loot in the bars, shops and restaurants. The income from events like the New Year's Eve fireworks display is vastly superior to the expense of putting it on. It is a commercial enterprise and well worth it. What London gains is a great deal of goodwill worldwide, it encourages the tourist trade which is worth hundreds of billions to London. Someone once said that there are only two cities worth visiting on this planet; one is London and the other is New York. These two cities spend a great deal of money boosting their tourist industries and the result is a great deal of success in their endeavours. You have to speculate to accumulate. Advertising London to the world via the Internet is paying off. It works.

It was just said on the news that it cost £1 million. Brilliant use of public money there eh?

The cost of the fireworks was £1,180,000, so close enough to £1.2 million. you wouldn't get anything for £50,000. Anyway, it was a waste of money don't you think? they could have helped some homeless people, or had blair asassinated for that...

If it was £1M, I think it was money well spent, and was done to show the rest of the world that London is able to put on a world class exhibition when it wants to. I think it was a good use of money as it was a fantastic spectacle serving to raise morale for the year ahead. So there are people on the streets with nowhere to live - they are mostly there because of their own actions, and that amount of money, although it sounds alot, is only a few pence per head.

I don't know how much it cost but it was absolutely awsome, I would have loved to have been there for the experience

It said on ITV News that it cost £50,000, but I also think it was much more.

you watched it on TV.... wow you should have traveled here (trust me it would of been money very well spent) I bet the TV did not do it justice...The atmosphere. The Sounds. The Views.... It was amazing...
