What kind of job should I get?

What kind of job can a Non-English speaker get in Canada?

  • My friend is Chinese and he didn't finish high school because his family was too poor to pay school fees. He speaks English okay, but his listening comprehension is really bad and his speaking isn't really that great either. I'm slowly teaching him English and he's a fast learner. The problem is, is that he wants to come to Canada to work because he can't find a good paying job in China. I told him that because he can't speak English well that it'll be hard to find a job. He asked if I'd help him find a job, but I don't even know what kind of jobs there are for someone like him, if any. So, what I'm wondering is: What kind of job could he get if he decided to move here?

  • Answer:

Your friend will have virtually no chance of moving here. He needs a skill in demand and decent English skills first. If he managed to make it here (and that is next to impossible) he would only be able to get very low paying under the table kind of jobs. He'd be in a worse position than if he stayed home. Canada has pretty strict work visa requirements. Unskilled labour pretty much doesn't have a chance here. Wish it were easier for your friend, but it doesn't sound hopeful for him.
