Resume and cover letter?

Do i make a resume and a cover letter or just a resume?

  • Im 15 years old and at my mall "santa" comes around november and this area in the mall is decorated with christmas decorations, reindeer's, sleighs, ect. and kids come to take a picture with santa. They hire girls around 15 to 24 to be "elves" where they just get these elf costumes and let the kids in to take a picture and get the money from them. The job is pretty easy, you do use a cash register but there are only 3 different picture packs you can get so it will be easy to use. They started hiring and accepting resumes on september 1st and they will until october 1st. My question is, should i just hand in my reume, or a resume AND a cover letter. Do i need a cover letter too? Or is a resume enough? I already wrote my resume and it is already printed out but i was wondering do i put the resume in an envelope, binder, or folder? or just hand it in as a piece of paper? I really need help!! thanks :)

  • Answer:

The proper practice is to only give a cover letter if you are responding to a job posting or ad. In that case you would need to provide a cover letter referencing points in the ad and giving some extra info about yourself that address the specific job requirements mentioned in the ad. You will also want to be certain that you address the cover letter correctly - cover letters should never be "To whom it may concerned," or "Attention Human Resources" as it should not be generic. You resume should be loose, a paper clip is fine for multiple pages, but no staples - and DO NOT put it in an envelope unless you are mailing it! That's a huge faux pas. Your resume should look neat and not folded. You can keep it protected in a binder until you hand it off though. Good luck :)

i personally wouldnt bother with a cover letter, its a bottom level job and hes just probably sifting thru them fairly quickly, its not like your going for an engineering job or something where it takes a more elaborate process where you gotta sell yourself more, a general resume with some work experience preferably would be good, then just do well on the interview and its all good
