How old do i have to be to legally work?

  • I'm 14 years old, and i heard that i can be 14 to work at a tim hortons, where else can i work at my age?? i really really wanna know cuz im just sooo broke!!

    Since you're 14, you can work 'on the books' in small stores such as diners, fast food restaurants, toy stores, etc but only for a few hours each day. You also need to pay tax, and since your under 21, you need to pay a larger tax.

In my state one can work in their parents business before age 14. When I was 14 I did a lot of babysitting. Depending on your state's guidelines, you might be able to work at various places, but likely there will be restrictions on how many hours in a day/week you can work. Also you probably cannot work past a certain time of day (for example the 14 year olds in my state cannot work past 7pm on certain days.) These restrictions can make it tough to find work.
