How do I turn my product idea into something profitable?

Who will turn my idea into a product?

  • I invented some thing, but I don't know who can make my product. Which company can I give my ideas to build it and then I can sell it in the market? If there is a company, do I just need to give the drawing and they will make the product and give it to me so I can sell it. What are the steps I need to take to invent a product? I live in Canada.

"Hi"......you may wish to explore getting a "patent" first ,and to this endeavour I can't help you except to say that it takes a while. My reason for saying this is that if your product can be copied and is a viable concern that is to say selling then it will be copied by people with more smarts and money than you have and I say that in a nice way. A good example would be the "frisbee' and "hula hoop"..easily copied. A patent can be also marketed by selling an interest in it...so bear that in mind. Now...as to having your invention manufasctured there are also many ways to do this....but never, ever, ever give your drawings away to anyone until you have a contract concerning it's production and a cost . You need to contact a trusted company that manufactures items that uses components or raw materials that make up your product and also see what outlets are interested in selling them, that step goes hand in hand and also ascertain if their is a market for your product. However if you have a better idea for a light bulb for example then contact one of the big companies making them and sell the idea and take a cut or partnership. So it's more complicated than making an item and selling it and I haven't even broached the banking, legal and safety issues. There's two things here...namely the physical product and a capital investment and they go hand in hand if you have a business plan set up......even if your invention sits fro a few years thats fine. Proper prepartion is paramount to your success. Phoning Consumer Affairs most likely won't do you any good at all at this stage , start with an accountant first... (a CGA ) and get him to guide and give you the first preliminary steps. Good Luck and glad to help ! *S* (Michael C...)
