Is Canada a good country to find a job?

Is it very hard to find a job for experienced immigrant in Canada ?

  • Hello, I'm a student in Canada (Toronto) and would like to invite my father here to Canada because I want him to work here as he can get more money here than he does in my country.. He knows english.. He has worked for Ministry of Defense as accounter with Major ranking in the army for 12 years + he has had businesses like a very big farm, transportation businesses like taxi , markets but due to some very little mistakes he just lost all of his money and everything.. but thanks god I just recently got full scholarship to study in Canada so I'm ok now. I would like to know is it possible or easy to find a job for a that kind of skilled professional ? What does he need to do ? Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

I believe it is sometimes a plus to be an immigrant, actually. This is because employers are sometimes required to hire a certain amount of minorities. He sounds like he has an excellent resume as well. I doubt he would have any problem getting a job in a field he has already worked in, such as transportation as you mentioned. I would recommend applying for a few "ideal" positions (a job that is at the top of his preference list, but may be slightly harder to obtain), a few in-the-middle jobs (jobs that he has a pretty good chance at getting), and some "last resort" jobs (self explanatory). Although, going by the information you provided the last part may not even be necessary. Good luck to you both :)

i don't know i havn't been to Canada before sorry?

Well as you said, your father has a very good resume..so in my thinking he should not have any problem in getting job..but you have to be patient and apply for as many jobs as you can..

He's been an accountant, a taxi driver and a farmer? Odd combination. Anyway, to be registered as a chartered accountant in Canada he'd have to contact the Ontario branch of the CICA (assuming he'll move to Ontario too, otherwise use that province's association) for an application. He'll have to write a test. This is normal. A couple that I worked for a few years ago had to go through the same thing when they moved here: she was originally from Romania and a nurse, he was Russian and a veterinarian. Both were educated at the university in Bucharest and both had to jump through hoops to work in those professions here. A classmate was in the same boat - engineering degree from China that wasn't recognized. Most Canadians do not consider farmers or taxi drivers skilled professionals. Additionally, farm hands and taxi drivers don't typically get paid well. Accounting would be his best bet.
