Answer:
Phwweeewwww okay. Where to start. Alright first of all, You use watts to measure volume and quality and all that good stuff. Now the rms rating is the most important thing. The 10 or 12 inch thing you are referring to is called a subwoofer. That needs to be run off of an amplifier. Now let's take a sub and an amp. The sub is 400 watt rms (assuming that it's a higher end brand and that's what it truly is) and now lets take an amp. Now to get a lot of performance, ideally the sub should be getting about 320 to 450 watts. You can go above the RMS a little. So you'd want an amp with a single channel (called monoblock or class d amps). Now say you have 2 subs that are 400 watts each. You now need about 750 to 900 watts for full, amazing performance. Now, you can wire two subs off of a single channel, Usually one 12" sub is plenty especially for an old car that will rattle a lot. There are 2 kinds of amps, mono block and multi channel (for speakers) a 2 channel would run 2 speakers and a 4 channel would run for. Just match up the wattage on an amp. It all depends on how much money you're willing to spend. Im going to go ahead and save you hundreds, thousands of dollars. Look into a kicker cvr-12" and ask an audio place what stock speakers are/were in it and get the same sizes. Now back to the amp, i know people who are running a lot of power so they have 2 amps. 1 for subs 1 for speakers. They make 5 channel amps with 4 speaker channels and 1 sub channel. This is what you should be looking at. for the sub: http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/3153203/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046 for the amp, http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/8244960/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046 That would be a great setup. Kicker is a top 3 brand for sure. You'll want a 2 ohm sub and the speakers should be 4 ohms. That'll be an awesome setup. one you wouldn't get anywhere else. Now that^ deserves a best answer ;) oh also youll need a box for the sub. And the speakers won't be loud but they'll work off of the deck or stereo.
