How to forward and change word in RE: Box?

Can i change the subwoofers from a pre wired sub box and add in two new subwoofers without re wiring it?

  • I have a pre wired box with two 10'' 300 watt subs already inside them. I am thinking about removing these two subs and adding in two 10'' 800 watt subs. The box is wired at 4 ohm. I am wondering if i will need to rewire the box or if it will be alright keeping it the same. I also want to know what brand subs to get. Im not trying to spend too much money on them either.

  • Answer:

Not without swapping in higher gauge wires to handle the higher power. There are only two sets of wires in a sub box, so rewiring it is really not that hard at all. The ohm rating is the rating for the speakers itself, that is how much resistance the 300watt subs that are in there provide. 4ohm tends to be the standard resistance for subwoofers so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
