Car Stereo Problems! Need Help ASAP!?

  • I was just installing an aftermarket stereo in my car. Just to make sure I had all the wires connected properly, I turned the car on and everything before I had taped the wires. The cd player started up and played just fine. Then the two power wires touched, and because they weren't taped yet, the lights dimmed for half a second, then everything was back to normal, except for the fact that the cd player would no longer turn on. I figured it was just the fuse in the back of the receiver, so I drove about 30 seconds to the local hardware store to buy another fuse. This fuse is exactly the same as the one that was originally in the cd player, size and amps and everything, but the cd player will still not power on. Does anyone think that I might have blown a fuse in the car itself? Or have I completely fried the receiver itself? I just got it back from repairs earlier today, and I don't want to have to send it in and have to wait another month to get it back again. Any help on this please?

  • Answer:

Start by getting a test light, Touch it to your positives and make sure they are still live. Then you know that your car is giving the deck power and it's your head unit that got fried. Otherwise, if you notice one of your live lines isn't giving power then you probably blew a fuse in the car.

by touching the two power wires you may have fried the motherboard that is inside your cd player. So either get a new cd player unless you have a head that goes over the cd player. If you do that also may be messed up and not ur cd player itself.
