Should I bridge my amp?

Can i bridge my two daul voice coil 4ohms subs to my legacy 3100 2channel amp bridged ?

  • i have two 12" 1600 watt 4ohm dual voice coil subs and a 2 channel 3100 watt amp if bridge both the subs and the amp what will happen? Only answer this ? if u know what your talking about cause i know that you can bridge a 2 channel amp an can bridge two subs but im not sure if my amp can handle it? please tell me exactly how to hook it up! I had 2 1200 wat subs and a 2 chanel 600 watt amp and i did that hit pretty hard but they were just 4ohm single voice coil.

    Odin is right on, bridging the amp and wiring your dvc 4's for a total impedance of 4 ohms will work fine with the amp bridged, but I'd just like to add for clarification... You don't bridge speakers and subs. You bridge amps. Connecting subwoofer voice coils in series or parallel or a combination of the two isn't bridging. Also, on the power of the amp - Again, Odin is correct. The only Legacy I can find at legacycaraudio.com advertised as 3100w is the LA3199. The manual rates it at 300x2 (rms) at 2 ohms which equates to 600w bridged. It doesn't list fuse size, but it does list a maximum current draw of 50A which makes it about right for 500-600w.

Yes, a PAIR of dual 4 ohm voice coil subs is idea for a 2 channel amp. You can wire the subs in a parallel/series configuration, to achieve a 4 ohm final load--- which is perfect when you bridge the amp. A pair of single 4 ohm subs is NOT ideal for a 2 channel amp, unless its 2 ohm mono stable (most arent). Use "wiring option 2" as shown here http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qty=2&woofer_imp=4 PS, legacy is a very cheap flea market company with fake power numbers. Your amp probably makes 500-700 REAL watts RMS, and your subs can handle nowhere near 1600 watts. RMS is the only spec to look at, not peak or max, but even flea market companies like legacy overrate their RMS numbers too.
