What is the cheapest car stereo I can get?

How can I get my car stereo working properly?

• I have a '98 Chevy Cavalier coupe with a Clarion CZ-201 head unit and two Clarion 6x9 speakers in the back. The front speakers are aftermarket, but we have no idea what kind they are (we bought the car used and the previous owner installed new speakers in the front). I printed off a wiring diagram online for the Cavalier and matched them up to the wiring diagram for the Clarion. I have everything wired up properly and the stereo works great. Now I have a major problem. Whenever I turn on the headlights, the speakers shut off and the head unit stays on. There's no sound whatsoever and I've tried changing the settings on the head unit to no avail. I'm thinking it could've been how I wired the stereo but I spent several hours re-wiring it only to have the stereo illuminate but not turn on at all (the lights turn on but the stereo itself won't turn on and the CD in the deck won't eject). I got the stereo to work once again and I made sure I taped up the wires securely after twisting the ends together firmly. I re-installed the stereo and when I went to go start my car, the stereo went back to its state of illuminating but not turning on. Have I done something wrong here? I got my friend to help me when the stereo wasn't receiving any power when I initially installed it. The wire for power must be dead somewhere because all of the fuses work fine and I've checked them all (including the larger ones under the hood). My friend suggested that I wire the stereo directly to a fuse that I didn't use (such as the car lighter fuse). I wrapped the wire around a prong and stuck it back into the fuse box. The stereo works fine this way (but like I said, the speakers shut off when the headlights are turned on). What can I do about this now? Any suggestions?
