How do you wire to different ohms?

How to wire a 4 channel amp with 4 speakers down to 2 ohms.?

  • So I just got a ZX350.4 amp and I'm replacing it with my old inefficient profile california amp. So pretty much I'm just gonna bee unhooking the old amp and putting the new amp in itz place. But Seeing that I don't know if it was wired I wanted to wire the amp to 2 ohms so I'll be getting 90 watts out of it per channel instead of 60 watts at 4 ohms. I'm gonna be powering infinity kappa component which are 90 rms and then my 6x9s which are 100rms. So pretty much I'm asking if I just put each speaker wire per channel is that gonna put them at 4ohms or 2? And If it is 4ohms how to do them at 2 ohms?

  • Answer:

You need more speakers for that. If you wire 1 speaker per channel it will be running 4 ohm. the only way to make it run 2 ohm is to wire 2 speakers in parallel to each channel, but then we are talking 8 speakers. That doesnt make any sense either because the 90 watt it gives per channel at 2 ohm will be divided across the 2 speakers giving each one 45 watts. You might as well run it at 4 ohm. if you do what 1st post suggests you are bridging the amp and per its specs it is not stable to bridge at 2 ohm. # 60 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (90 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms) # 175 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)

first and foremost, you need to make sure that your speakers are capable of handling 2ohms. Its usually labeled on the magnet of the speaker. To wire it down to two ohms, lets use your front two speakers first. You would take the positive from both and put them in the positive terminal for channel 1. Next, take the two negatives and put them on channel 2 negative terminal. Assuming that channels 1 & 2 are your front, you should be good to go. Repeat these steps for your rear speakers.

Jfort, cant do it man, sorry. You only have 4, four ohm speakers. Dont worry, you will be happy with the sound! running that amp at 2 ohms anyways would really stress it, and it would run hot.
