What's a good ipod-compatible car stereo?

Im replacing car stereo. I connected the wires and antenna of new one but speakers are silent, whats wrong?

  • I know the stereo works, and the electrics and wires are connected so it looks like it should when plugged in, but there is literally no sound out of the speakers. Not even a scratch. Yet, all the wires are connected to the stereo. Whats goig on and where should I take it to get looked at?

  • Answer:

maybe youre car needs fixing or just maybe its new and all it wont start

if you are using a used factory radio as a replacement, You are going to need the security code to unlock the radio.....GM radios will appear to be on but, no sound, when lock is enabled. If you are using an aftermarket radio, you either have a bad, (or loose), ground. A blown fuse. or a definate imepdence mismatch.

Is there a break in the speaker wire?

Mother Hen

if the stereo is used and got it from someone then the ends of the stereo where the sound comes from are blown

maybe you put the left speaker with the right plug-in and the right speaker with the left plug-in by accident, and you just need to switch them.

turn on the stereo - turn up the volume

Does the display light up? Some vehicles have the positive/switched positive the wrong way round. Use a circuit tester to check that the right wires are connected and no fuses are blown.

there are tons of things that could be wrong here. ive hooked up many stereos so ive seen lots of problems. first thing i would do is make absolutely shur that ALL of your wires are 100% connected properly and going to the RIGHT PLACE. if that still doesnt work check ur fuses AND ur constant power source with a volt meter. also check to see that you have a good ground connction, sometimes you might hafta grind a little metal to get a good connection cuz electricity doesnt flow as well through paint. if all that doesnt work but the stereo comes on like it should, then you just might have bad or blown speakers.

This has happened to me and i couldnt figure out what it was until i started to test each wire one by one and found out that one of the rear speakers had a short to the chassis... that is what i think you have because it is a really interesting problem and lots of people don't know about it . (you can check them by connecting the speakers one by one) thats what i did... Hope this helps
