Can be erase to recordable cd?

What's wrong with my CD player and how do I fix it? It won't play recordable CDs any more!?

• Probably should have addressed this a year ago really...... Last year my car lost an argument with a barn door so I took it to be repaired. Before the repairs my CD player was working fine and played everything - when I got it back, it now won't play the vast majority of my CD-Rs (basically mix CDs of favourite music), and a select few normal bought CDs (it has a clear dislike for any CD by a band on the moonska label!). I put it in, and after a while it whirrs and makes a ticking sound, then a sort of jarring stop and comes up with 'CD Error' and spits the CD out again. CDs which have the odd scratch play fine in my friend's car, but they skip constantly in mine. Tried the CD head cleaner, a canister of oxygen spray etc etc. Any suggestions apart from replace the CD player?

  I had the same sequence with a domestic audio system. First it rejected CD-Rs, then later some pressed CDs. A few months ago it stopped recognising all CDs. I went deep into the mechanism and concluded the head/head transport assembly was shot and tried to find a replacement by using the part number on it. I didn't find one, but you might be able to get a replacement for yours - if you're comfortable with diving into the guts of the thing. Good luck!
