Does audiopipe make good subs?

How can I make my subs pound harder? 2 Alpine Type X's?

  • I recently got 2 Alpine Type X 12 inch subs with a 2000 watts RMS amp. Boxes are Ported and tuned for 32 Hz. I am not happy with how the subs perform. I want eyeball rattling chest thumping bass that shakes the mirrors in the vehicles next to me. I've seen some impressive videos on youtube with Type X's (even one sub) flexing windshields with clear sound. Mine just doesnt play the way I want it to play. Some options available to me are Tuning the amp (Any and all suggestions welcome, I have no clue how to tweak amps) or just yanking out the 12's, and getting 2 15 inch Kicker L7's put in instead. Another option would be to get two more type x subs and another 2000 watt amp installed. I have NOT upgraded the Alternator and I have have NOT done the big 3 Upgrade yet (cant find a place to do it or sells the stuff to do it myself). Vehicle is a 2007 Escalade EXT. The truck bed access panel (behind the rear seat) has been removed and in its place is an enclosure with a box on either end with the amp in the gap in the center.

I think you answered your own question. You really need to upgrade your alt. and do the Big 3. At least the Big 3. Order stuff online if you have to. With 2,000 watts RMS (which that amp is fully capable of) you're drawing as much as 175 amps from your battery and alternator. Even if the rest of the charging system is up to task (since you have upgraded batteries) the wire is holding you back. I only have a Power Bass ASA800.2 running two Rockford 10" Punch 3 series in a '99 Olds Intrigue and I noticed a huge difference when I upgraded the wire just using 4 gauge. Here's a list of kits that include everything you need for the Big 3 Upgrade http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i1209_big-3-upgrade-kits.html BTW, how are your subs wired to that amp? Those are dual 4 ohms subs. If you have two of them they're either wired for a 1 ohm load or a 4 ohm load. The 4 ohm load is the only configuration compatible with that amp. If that's they way they're hooked up then you're only getting 1,000 watts RMS. That would also decrease their output and leave you wondering. The only option is to buy an amp that puts out ~2,000 watts (or more) at 1 ohm, or buy different subs that will allow you to get the full 2,000 watts out of that amp.

Fusion isn't that impressive either for the record. your amp is probably a pos since you didn't give the brand but said it's 2000 watts. As long as the subs are in a well built/designed enclosure, your biggest issues will be the amplifier itself and your electrical system, i.e., big three upgrade and HO alternator. There's no way you're going to get 2000 watts from any amplifier without upgrading your electrical system. So even if you had an amp that actually put out 2,000 watts, your alternator can't support. Adding capacitors won't help. If anything it will only make matters worse.

Not true... I have a 97 gmc Z71 extended cab. Stock electrical system except for alternator upgrade. I built my enclosure a year ago and running 1 Kicker CVR 10 Comp2 and a Sony Explode 700w amp. I had to buy custom Lexan windows for my truck b/c the stock windows shattered from bass. Get a new enclosure custom built for your Escalade. I would normally charge $1200 for an enclosure like you are looking for. Good luck!

adding some massive capacitors will mean it will have more punch, but will not necessarily make the bass louder.. shortening the power wires to the amp or having larger wires will also improve the system slightly if you're lucky.

you want good strong bass? then get fusion subs.. alpine sucks
