What size anl fuse do I use?

I blow 80A and 100A fuses with my amp after playing loud music what size inline fuse should I use?

  • My amp is a soundstream pca2000d with 2ga ground and power cables (brand: Fosgate thick). Main power is 1/0ga threw distribution block. Amp is paired with 2 12s kicker L5s. Should I run an ANL fuse holder maybe 200A/300A or is that too much?

    A 2000w class D should be fine on 2 ga. I'd put a 250A anl in the 1/0 near the batt and a 200A on the 2 ga at the d/block. REAL 2 awg wire is good for over 200A. AJ's calc's are MUCH higher than the actual current draw you'd measure in-car. Basically, those calcuations assume the signal is full volume test tones. With music you can cut it at least in half. I could see blasting it blowing a 100A fuse after a few minutes. You should have any problems with a 200A fuse.

If you're installing just one amplifier, the fuse at the battery should simply match or slightly exceed the fuse rating of the amplifier itself. If you're installing two or more amplifiers, just add their fuse ratings together and install a fuse rated roughly equal to this sum. Generally, it's better to go slightly higher than lower, but a margin of five amperes is acceptable. Say you have three amplifiers, two with fuse ratings of 20 amps each and one with a fuse rating of 25 amps. In this case, you can safely go with either a 60 or 70 amp fuse. (Of course, if your system is powerful enough to demand that you install a heavy duty fuse, it's important that your power and ground wire be of an appropriately heavy gauge as well.) if you exceed the amps fuse ratings you will fry your amp if there is an issue

Figuring you're running a true 2000 watts @ 14.4 VDC, that would require 2000 watts / 14.4 volts DC = 139 amps @ 100% efficiency. At 80% efficiency; 2000 watts / 14.4 volts DC = 139 amps / 80% (or .80) = 174 amps At 60% efficiency; 2000 watts / 14.4 volts DC = 139 amps / 60% (or .60) = 232 amps Find out what the efficiency of the amp is and go from there. The other option is use and amp meter with an inductive pickup and read how many actual amps are going through the wire.

Your power wire to your amp is too small. Try runnig 0ga or 4ga, there also might be a short somewere so double check all your connections and make sure they are not crossing anywere.
