Question about my 2000 Grand Am?

Question on tweeters for a 2000 grand am?

  • This is probably a really stupid question. I don't know much about stuff when it comes to vehicles, but I usually can figure it out. I just bought speakers for the back of my grand am. I was looking at replacing the tweeters that are in the door. Well I guess their on top of the door. I went to crutchfield and they don't really tell me much. Usually they tell you if they fit your car or not, but it don't. Just says some drilling is usually required. Shouldn't I be able to just unhook the old ones and hook the new ones up in the same place?

  • Answer:

I believe they are 1 inch tweeters. you might have to use smaller depending on how big the casing of the new tweeters are. there's no drilling at all for them. all you do is open the door, carefully pry the little triangular panel that holds the tweeter and carefully pop it out. Hopefully your new tweeters will fit right in there without having to break those little tabs. otherwise u silicon them in there. there is a crossover in-line with the tweeter, you might be able to look down into the door and see it (it's the bulge in the speaker wire). It's up to you if you want to replace it or leave it. you have 4x6 speakers in the doors. if you replace those, and go with bigger speakers like 5.25 or 6.25, that's when you'd have to drill holes for the adapter. you'll also have to get the hacksaw out to get the adapter to fit right.
