Should I bridge my amp?

If I bridge my amp, will it be too much power? ?

  • I have a 2 channel amp that is 150w rms. I've heard that if you bridge an amp, it may put out more power than the rating. So if I bridge it to one 150w sub, will it be too much power and possibly tear up the sub?

  • Answer:

No bridging is what you want to do.. Also run the amp in mono. You are using it for your subs, right.. You bridge the amp and run in mono for better bass. Also more wattage is not always best. If you get a good clear 2 channel amp its what you want for subs. Then get a 4 channel for your inside speakers and get a crossover for it so u can maximize mids and highs. Make your inside speakers just speakers with no added twiders or other dodads. You want seperate tweeders for your highs and a good say 6 inch round speakers for your mids. Put your tweeders at a high point in the car because like they say its for HIGHS, mids are for doors, like it say MIDS like MIDDLE for the acustics Subs for lows mids for midrange and tweeds for highs. if you get good quality stuff, deck, amps speakers, you will have a concert in your car. I had Lanzar 100 2 channel bribged in mono and a US amp 4 channel for my mids and highs. I prefer Alpine for a deck. They are the cleanest sounding decks you can buy. I was able to crank my deck wide open as far as it would go and it was clear all the way up. It took many trys of amps to get the right sound but if you keep trying till u get what you want you will be VERY happy... Good Luck If you buy cheap stuff you will get cheap sound. GET THE GOOD STUFF...

Your amplifier should have a power rating for 2-channel, and a different power rating for bridged mono. If the bridged rating is at or below the sub's power rating, it should be fine. (Make sure you're comparing RMS power ratings, and ignoring "peak" or "max" ratings). If you're having trouble finding the bridged power rating, it's typically double the 2-ohm 2-channel power rating. So if the amp is rated for 100 watts RMS to 2 channels at 2 ohms, then it's probably rated for 200 watts RMS bridged.
