How should I replace the speakers in my car?

Do I have to replace speakers and radio to get bettersound in my car or can i just replace the speakers?

  • My car is a 1999 Toyota Corolla and I have the factory speaker and radio.

  • Answer:

I would replace the speakers first. There are tons of good companies out there that make great speaker, personally, I love Rockford. However, everyone has their own preference. If you do replace speakers first, I would suggest spending just a little bit more money and get some that has tweeters built onto them. This will bring out some of the highs in the music giving it an overall better quality. The speakers will of course also depend slightly on what size speakers are in your car now. Do this, give it a listen and see what you think. It will sound a lot nicer and clearer, but probably won't get louder. For that you will need to start off by changing your radio.

my sugestion is to upgrade the radio and speakers to get the sound quality you want go that way its better

getting an aftermarket radio will send more watts to your speakers and if you upgrade speakers you need to upgrade your radio, but sometimes the factory speakers can handle the watts coming out of an aftermarket radio so go with the radio first and then upgrade the speakers

You want to replace the factory head unit first. It will make the biggest difference. For a 99 Corolla you only need a wiring harness and it is quite easy to install. An after market head unit will make the factory speakers sound better because of the increased power. If you replace only the speakers the difference you notice will be negligible as any good after market speaker needs more than the approx 10 watts. your factory stereo provides. After that just about any after market speaker will again make a nice difference as you will notice a wider frequency response and not just all midrange.

the speakers are made of paper and they are verey simple i will replace all 4 speakers with coacxials or 3 way for the back if posible and later if you are not happy with the sound you can get a new head unit the factory toyota radio looks good in the dash and is cd ready it also sounds ok with better speakers try kennwod, pioneer, sony, speakers that have a name brand stay away from wallmart or fleamarkets good luck

Well most factory speakers put out more bass then aftermarket. You ask why? well I will tell you... when you get in that car on the show room floor and you turn on the radio and hear some bass you automaticly think its a good sounding stereo. Now personally I have installed a new deck with stock speakers and it sounded better so personally I would go with a new headunit first then upgrade the speakers second.
