Any suggestions for a sound system?

Looking for a high quality sound system for cheap. Any suggestions?

  • i dont know too much about car audio and sound systems, but it seems that most of my friends that have sound systems have a lot of bass (usually too much) from theirs subs and a lot of treble from their tweeters, but they have no mid, so the sound quality sux cuz the bass is just blowing and and the tweeters are just giving me a headache... i need to know what would be a good quality system for a decent price

  • Answer:

Ok, so you want a good sound quality system, not a SPL system. Good. I would recommend a good HU (head unit, deck); a good component set up front; an amp for the comp set; a 12" sub; and an amp for the sub. What vehicle are we working on here? That would help to specify which components would work for you. Also, need a budget you want to spend on it all. Remember, there is more to buy than just the above. You need wiring for it all; a box for the sub; and sound deadener for your car/truck. Here is a list of brands for you to look at: Good brands, including but not limited to: Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, JL Audio, Soundstream, ARC Audio, Cadence, Diamond Audio, Focal, Dayton (subs), Precision Power, some MTX, RE audio, Fi car audio, Sundown Audio, Hertz, MB quartz, Zapco, Infinity, Incriminator Audio, Missing Link Audio, Mach5, Ascendent audio, and DC sound labs, Digital Designs, Pioneer Premier; old school brands: Lanzar, Hifonics, Orion, and Phoenix Gold. Mediocre brands (brands that are good for the money, but there is better): Quantum Audio, Sony ES line, Memphis, JBL (in my opinion), Pioneer, Kenwood. Generic brands, not limited to, but including Pyramid, Boss, Lanzar (except old school Lanzars), HiFonics (again except old school, series VIII and earlier), Legacy, American Pro, Powerbass, MA Audio, Dual, Lightning Audio, Visionik, Volfenhag, Jensen, American Legacy, Audiobahn, Sony Explod line, VR3, JVC, Pyle. Any thing at Wal-Mart, or an auto parts store.

When it comes to electronics especially, you get what you pay for. Make sure you go to a car audio shop though b/c your speakers will have issues. This way you are under a warranty and get free replacements.

If you just want to listen to music that sounds really good, you can look around for the highest grade factory stereo that your car was offered with. I have the factory JBL stereo in my Camry and it sounds really good. It gets REALLY loud and sounds really clear. I would like a powered bass tube though. It could use a little low-end punch. Call around to salvage yards and see what they have. Sometimes you can get them really cheap.
