Can I set Amp watts lower?

My cd player has an output of 16 watts rms..where should I set the gain on my amp for two 300 rms subs/700amp?

    How you can set your gain is simple... First turn it all the way down.... then turn you headunit up to 75% og its volume, so if your headunit goes to 20 turn it to 15. After you have the headunit up go to your amp and then turn up the gain until you hear distortion, then turn it down a little but and it is set. Good Luck P.S. wattage doesn't matter when setting gains, what you look at is preout voltage

What you need to do is set your cd player to the volume where your gonna listen to it most then adjust the gain, ideally you want to set it on to the loudest volume you will listen to it (not the loudest volume it will go!!) at then set it to a bit before it distorts to make sure it wont wont distort on any tune your listening to.

usaully anything over 3/4 will start giving distortion. but it depends on the quality of your units. play with it (gently so you don't blow things up) so you get the best sound.

You should use a line out connection if you connect an external amp. The line out is not affected by a volume control. The amplified output should only go to loudspeakers or headphones.
