Why are my subs constantly hitting as soon as I turn them on?

Subs hitting harder, is this ok?

  • I have a JVC KD-G140 head unit and 2 10" lanzar max st subwoofers. When i choose the option "l/o mode" I get two choices, rear and woofer. The subs sound ok on the woofer option, but when I turn it to rear they get twice as powerful. I opened my trunk and i could here words coming from the subs, but they were pounding twice as hard. I know that you're not supposed to hear words from subs, just bass, but would this really hurt anything? I like heavier hitting power. Thank you very much in advance =]

I'm surprised that there's such a big difference. When the "woofer" option is selected, there should be a subwoofer volume option in the audio menu. It's possible that this is just turned down all the way. Try adjusting the subwoofer volume until you get the output you want. If you're still happier with the "rear" output setting, you can use it; but I'd suggest adjusting the low-pass crossover filter on your amp until you can't hear the voices any more.

no, having vocals go through a sub is a bad thing, they shouldnt be producing high frequency notes, thats bad.. keep it playing low frequencies notes only, considering thats only what their for... unless you wanna ruin your subs

Just so you know and not to interfere with you freedom of choice but all the abuse to you eardrum and inner ear from your "Thumpin" sound system "GUARANTEES" you will need a hearing aid in your late 40's and will not be able to hear sounds in the base range. Sorry but this is a fact and not something made up

I'm only assuming you have an amp connected to the subs. If so, use the sub out from the back of the deck and bridge the amp so that both subs hit at the same time and not in stereo. Also, make sure the sub wires aren't crossed inside the box or where ever you have them placed.

simply because the signal to the sub option is pure low pass only, and when you turn it to rear, its a mix out that cannot filter by your amp, and you hear other than base, if your amp having switch like low pass, high pass or full, if it works, just put it to low pass, if isn't work you will better add a active crossover to purify your base and maximize it.
