How do i power up my car radio?

How can I tell if my car radio amplifier is receiving power?

  • My subwoofers have stopped working in my car and I want to see if the amp is still working.

    You can start by getting a test light at Auto Zone for about $7-$10. Hook up one end to ground or to the chassis. Use the probe to test the lead for the big positive wire on the amplifier. This should have power at all times. If you find no power here then check the fuse close to the battery. Find the exact same wire and you should find a large fuse. If you do have power though, then check the thin blue wire. This is the remote. For the remote to have power the car stereo must be on. If you have power there then make sure you have a good ground.If there is no power at the remote blue wire with the radio on then check the remote fuse behind the radio head unit. If all of these connections seem good, take the grill off the speakers and push down on the speaker but not in the very center more towards the edge of the center evenly. If you feel it crunchy this means your speakers are blown.

check the power leads to the amp, but using a test light to see if current is present at the amp.. if its not then check the fuse or circuit breaker (whichever you're using). if bad then replace.. and make sure to check the amp turn on lead as well If thats good make sure the ground is secure and making contact.. if the ground is good and the power is good then its either the subs or the RCA cables.. to test the cables just grab a set and run from the head unit to the amp.. to test the output of the amp just wire another speaker to it and if you hear it then your original subs have burned the coils.
