How do you wire to different ohms?

How do I wire two DVC 4 ohm subs to a mono amp that is only stable to 2 ohms?

  • I have two Audiobahn AW1206T DVC subs that are 4 ohms each and I want to wire them up to a Phoenix Gold R15.0:1 mono amp that is only 2 ohms stable. There are two sets of speaker terminals on the Mono amp and I am not sure how they are wired internally in the amplifier. The amp diagram does not show the speakers being wired to each set of terminals, rather it appears to show a bridged type wiring. Is it really bridged or are both sets of terminals ( positives and negatives) just shorted to eachother internally? If they are actually separate then maybe I could just wire a 2 ohm load to each terminal, but I am not sure this is possible and may actually create a 1 ohm load if they are shorted internally to the amp. Is there anyway for me to wire both speakers and achieve a 2 ohm load? Is my only option to get another duplicate amp and wire one speaker per amp?

Here's how to wire series-parallel and is the only way for 4 ohms in your case http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j230/sparky3489/PARALLEL-SERIES.jpg My site http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com

i suggest going to crutchfield.com, from my experience you may be able to splice the two subs together before plugging them to the amp, but the draw back of this is the low power output to each and the potential to blow your amp. the best solution would be to buy a higher power rated amp with multiple outputs, or another single as u thought. i may be wrong but like i said go ask the guys at crutchfield.com

Unfortunately, the lowest impedance you can safely achieve with that amp and those subs is 4ohms. (series parallel) As for the terminals on the amp, they are run parallel internally. So both sides with 4 ohms each side/ or 2 ohms just using 1 side. You are also correct in thinking you will need another identical amp to get things running optimally. Good Luck
