15w fubar power acoustik car subwoofer, what amp and box?
-
i am getting a power acoustik fubar series sub, it has 1000 watts RMS and 2000 wat max. i am wondering whether i need a ported box or not, and what amp would be good for this sub, thanks

Answer:
with that many watts, DON'T port it. you will blow it. as for an amp, find out how you're going to be wiring it and what the ohm load will be how you have it wired, and then from there its just a matter of getting whatever you can afford without going over the rms and max watts. stick with bigger names too, alpine watts are more true than jensen amps, etc.

i had 2 of those exact subs in my ford ranger. with a ported box with a rockford power 1000.1 amp running to them. it was the hardest hitting system that i hv ever had. couldnt turn it up past 12 because it blew out the windows. but its up to you on the box but dont cheap out on the amp get a rockford.
Curls
If it is a 4Ohm sub, get a mono (1 channel) amp that puts out about (doesn't have to be exactly the same) 1000watts RMS x 1 @4Ohms. Or get a 2 channel amp that, when bridged, puts out about 1000watts RMS x 1 @Ohms. If it's a 2Ohm sub get a mono amp that puts out about 1000watts RMS x 1 @2Ohms, a 2 channel amp won't work in this case. Make sure the amp you get is CEA-compliant. This ensures that it puts out what it claims. For a box it depends on if you want it loud but less accurate or accurate but less loud. If you want it louder, build a ported box according to PowerAcoustics' specs and tune it to the desired frequency. Don't buy a prebuilt ported box. It WILL sound like crap. If you want it more accurate, build a sealed box according to PAs' specs. It is okay to buy a prebuilt sealed box as long as it has around the same internal volume that PA suggests. For that kind of power, though, you'll need to do the Big3 Upgrade at least and possibly a high output alternator. E-mail me for info on the Big3. Good Luck! ADDED: Disregard what dude said about ported boxes blowing the sub. Evidently he's only had experience with prebuilt ported boxes. A properly tuned ported box will be fine. The only way it could blow the sub is if it isn't tuned right. Which if you build it to PA's specs' (obviously would know what they're doing) it'll perform like it should.
ohm
do not use a ported box it allow the woofer to be to free you want back pressure on a woofer that big. as for amps most amp dont show true watts you need to look at the RMS rating at walmart sony 1200 watt amp does not put out 1200 watts it will depend on the ohm rating you wire your speakers for that make the most differance the less ohm the more watt you get. 400watts@8ohm 600 watts @4ohn 800watts@2 ohm and here is the 1200 watts @ 1 ohm some amps can not run at 1 ohm stable so check data on amps close
