How to use an iPod in a car with no cd or tape player?
-
I have a car with no tape player and no CD player (A dodge neon, if that makes any difference). I want to be able to play my iPod in the car. I've looked at those FM transmitters that work on the radio signal, but I've read a lot of negative things about them, and I live in a fairly rural area that might not be able to pick up a lot of radio signal.( If some one has had exprience with this option I would like to hear it.) I'm looking for other options. I've also read about FM modulators which are generally better, but a bit more complicated... All in all, i'm looking for something fairly cheap and fairly easy. If someone would be so kind as to explain these things to me, I wold appreciate it. I'm not a total moron, just confused by these things...

Answer:
the modulator is a better option, but you have to remove your radio, and do some basic wiring. if you get a transmitter dont get a cheap one. the sound isnt good. the transmitter works like a mini radio station that your antenna picks up so a lack of radio signals is a good thing, because thats what messes with the signal from the transmitter. other radio signals. the modulator plugs into the antenna so its less affected by other radio signals. on a factory stereo with mediocore sound quality a transmitter may be acceptable, on hi end audio equipment a transmitter is is just wrong.

As long as the transmitter is inside the car, your radio will pick up the signal. All you do is plug your phone/ipod into the transmitter through the headphone jack, and listen away. Sorry, and tune your radio to the set frequency.

Have you looked into purchasing an after-market audio system that includes an auxiliary input? A lot of major retail stores, as well as lot of auto stores, sell these (and they've got pretty good selection out there.) Unfortunately, when you install one of these, it will probably need to be done by a mechanic, or by someone who knows what they're doing. If you buy one with an auxiliary input, then you will need an RCA jack for the ipod--you can buy them really cheap at Wal Mart, so they're not outrageously expensive.
