What is a good amp to power up a 15" kicker cvr?

Is a Kicker zx750.1 amp good enough to power two 15" Kicker CompVRs?

  • I already have two 12" Kicker CompVRs, powered by a Kicker zx750.1 amp. But I want two 15" Kicker CompVRs to go with them. So I just bought another Kicker zx750.1 amp, and I need to know if it is the correct amp to power the two 15" Kicker CompVRs.

  • Answer:

If the subs are 2-ohm DVC, this amp will be enough to power them (not to the maximum, but enough). If the subs are 4-ohm DVC, you should go return the amp. That amp is rated to put out 750 watts RMS @ 2-ohms OR 375 watts RMS @ 4-ohms. Those subs are rated to handle 500 watts RMS each for a total of 1000 watts RMS. If the subs are 2-ohm DVC, you can wire them like this: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard/2_2ohmDVC_2ohm.gif for a final load of 2-ohms and you will be getting 750 out of the 1000 watts your subs want, which is close enough to max power. However if they are 4-ohm DVC, you will be forced to run that at 4-ohms (since the amp is not 1-ohm stable) and they will only be getting 375 watts out of the 1000 watts they want. If this is the case, return that amp, and find one that can put out 1000 watts RMS into a 1-ohm load, then wire them like this: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard/2_4ohmDVC_1ohm.gif This is a good amp for that case: Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200.1D http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23548_Hifonics+Brutus+BRZ1200.1D.html Good Luck!
