Do I need an amplifier for my speakers?

Do I need to buy a Bridgeable Amplifier to Hook up speakers to my car?

  • This xmas i wanted to buy myself speakers for my car. Me being car illiterate i just thought you buy the speakers and it magically just worked (joking). But now i realized ill need the actual speakers, the wires to hook up the speakers to the actual car, and what my friend is telling me is that i need a Bridgeable Amplifier so it will all work. Wont the speakers and just the wires work fine without the Bridgeable Amplifier ? please let me know

  • Answer:

I just love this amplifer. Originally I had it powering two MTX Thunder round 5500 12 inch subs. The hit twice as hard as when I had them powered by a pioneer 250 rms amp. I later swapped out my subs for two rockford DVC 275 rms subs wired at 2ohms in parallel and could not be happier with the amplifer.

Bridging combines the output of 2 channels into a single mono signal. Most 2 and 4-channel amps have provisions for bridging the channels. But it's usually only necessary if the amp is used to drive subwoofer(s) in mono mode. For most full-range coaxial or component speakers, the power from a single channel is sufficient. Actually, for subwoofer(s), the best choice is usually a monoblock. For a given power output, they are generally less expensive, draw less current, and run cooler.
