What host can i hook a usb external hard drive to?

Can i hook up a USB Flash drive to my car cd receiver?

  • I have a dual 2 step motorized cd player in my car and it has a connection that comes with it to hook up an mp3 player (or to link from a portable cd player output to it). The connection is like the same size as a headphone jack. Is there some sort of adaptor I can get to turn it into a USB port or do I need to by an mp3 player to use it? More specific info if needed (ie model number of cd player).

  • Answer:

No adaptor exists since power needs to run to the USB drive. You need an MP3 player. May I recommend the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra 30 Gig MP3 player. It not only stores MP3's but it also stores data (files). It is after all a 30 Gig mini-Hard drive that plays MP3's. It holds my 2500+ songs on it very nicely. I can go for weeks not ever hearing the same song twice. The other nice thing about my MP3 player is it is self-serviceable. Unlike the iPoop, I don't have to send it in if I ever need the rechargeable battery changed. CAUTION: If you do decide to get one, it MUST be handled carefully. You just can't throw it about and expect it to stay in working condition. If you don't want to have to worry about all that, get a smaller non-hard drive based model.

Wal-Mart has an $89.00 no name head unit (WR-something) that my girlfriend bought...simply because it has a USB port on the face of the radio! It also has an SD card input as well as an MP3 jack...super cheap, sounds good and has the techy stuff that NONE of the name brand equip has. The only drawback is that it is a no name brand. So if you're all about showin off your new Alpine or Blaupunkt, you're out of luck...

you cant connect a USB flash drive to your car. but if you buy a head unit with a USB port on it than you can. I have one of those and its cool because i dont need to make CD's no more. JVC usually makes a lot of those and i've seen clarion have them too. im sure there is more brands too so you might want to check out new head units.
